  • what gets me is to see beautiful renders on daz, like as promos, but then they admit, oh, this was done in poser, carrara, bryce, etc... when theoretically it's supposed to be for daz? ok...

don't get me started on the v models. i prefer david bowie to be male, not be cloned as wierd women in 3d...

oh, and that posette was more realistic, really. my only comment is why do ALL the 3d female models have big lips and small eyes? ok, not the thornesarzamada ones, which i love, nor aiko, but she;s a cartoon... but the ones that are supposed yo be adults, um, the v's and stephanie, i think it was.

    just wondering.

while i'm at it, whose GENIUS was it to make all the people models be bent kneed by default? nobody stands that way. it is not possible to. and you can always tell a new 3d user when they haven't fixed that but rendered default...

    ok, i'm just ranting.

  • Ah, yes. I concur.

Also what is pornographic about pubic hair on males (whose toast is still obscured by shadowssee my "advert" on the Hot and bothered thread) when arguably V4 often enough flaunts her absence thereof (pelvis region), thus depicting her as pre pubescent and consequently coming much closer to child pornography?

I sense double standards at work! But maybe that is just my German upbringing (after all, I grew up wih mixed nude saunas).

Pubic hair is not in and of itself pornographic, nor is the lack of pubic hair indicative of pedophilia. Many women and some men shave for various reasons, it is very common today, particularly as close-fitting swimwear is the norm today, rather than the exception.

As for myself, I prefer my female skins to be shaved. Pubic hair is easy to add to a skin that is shaved. It is extremely difficult (usually impossible) to remove pubic hair from a skin that is not shaved.

  • Hello everybody... I would like to share a picture but with the discussions abut what is an artistic nude and what not, I am completely lost... Where should I post this?
  • Hi, Mav--that's another of those Mapplethorpe-like abstracts that skates around the edges of objectifying the human body, given the pose--thereby posing a challenge. If he had a head, I would have said "artistic nude." Without, I'm at a loss as to how to answer.

It certainly is worth linking to, as you have. Shall we leave it at that? :)

Thank you Nan! And no problem, I post him in the other thread then... I just was not sure since I think it is an artistic nude but I know, that others think different. :)
  • Question for Raet-- did you ever get away on holiday, or did we just miss it all...? And did you travel?

  • Me, holiday, no such luck, I regret to inform. My last holiday to the Fatherland was in February for a week. Spent Easter holidays here and was pretty much laid up for a week with a flu that was trying to become an ear infection, so that was fun. Typical teacher thing, though: as soon as the term stops your body decides to shut down. Happens to me regularly and sucks every time.
Going on holiday is not a option for most of this year as Frank and I have got 5 to attend, one of which was in March, the next is in two weeks, then one at he start of June and one at the start of July fow which my parents are coming over so between those, the money is just not there.
Annoyingly, this weekend there is a big RPG convention in Cologne with a number of publishers in attendance and I would have loved to go to show some of my art and see if I can make contacts for some freelance illustrations but I only found out last week and don't have the money to hop on a plane just now, plus this weekend is packed with things already and has been for weeks. I suppose my social life is more important to me than potentially making money...
  • Ahh. Sorry to hear that you had Easter-flu. That's no fun at all.

Five weddings to attend? (You didn't say what you were attending, but it sure sounds like weddings. Funerals just don't get planned out like that. ;) )

Making contacts at conventions is hit and miss, especially at the big ones. The publishers are mobbed with people trying to get a foot in the door, so your luck will vary. Smaller conventions can be a bit less fraught. Still, sorry that you missed this one. The right time will come, I'm sure.

  • Yep, it is weddings. Thankfully I own a kilt and all the trimmings, so at least I don't have to splash out renting an outfit.

  • Oh...LT can speak to the conventions thing, as he was taking his comic around last year. He said Comicon was useless, but the one in New York was great. And it helps to be seen more than once.

This is the thing I dread about finishing the books I'm working on: taking them around to publishers, the endless contacting and engaging and schmoozing. I can't think about it as sales, I suck at sales. If I think of it as making friends, that might help.

True, that bit I'm not too eager on either. I'm not good at blowing my own trumpet(read: detest it!). There was a UK games convention earlier his year but from what I saw in terms of publishers being there, it wasn't worth my while even going. Well, maybe I can make it to the big games con in Essen in October. It is the biggest in Europe I think, even the guys from my local games shop in Glasgow go and set up stall.

Needless to say what we had for clouds today did nothing as the actual clouds were to thin. The other stuff in the air made them look like they might be able to gather enough to be useful.

  • It's very dry even for this part of the country. A friend's cabin is just below and to the side of the current direction of the fire. He says everyone in the valley is running garden hoses full blast wetting down everything they can just in case the wind shifts.
  • Oh, my. That doesn't sound good.
  • I have a couple of these masks and several filters if I really need to use them. http://www.icanbreathe.com/favorite.htm
I probably won't need to though. Even though the fire has now jumped to 26,000 acres the sun wasn't as orange this morning and I was fine all day.
  • Terre are you guys alright?
  • We're fine. There's still a bit of smoke in the air from that fire and the Gila one. Not enough to be a problem at this time. Just make the sunrise slightly golden.
  • Replacing a window unit air conditioner that was installed by a contractor who is used to climate/crime conditions in New England is a big pain in the patootie! Is done though.
  • I'm expecting people dressed as Puritans to come and steal your AC, now...

  • LOL
He was expecting people to try and steal the units out of the windows. What we have learned from using them is that there probably isn't much of a market for stolen ones. Price wise they run less than $250.00 and cost a hell of a lot more to operate than swamp coolers. As such those who are willing to pay the electric bill will almost all simply be willing to buy new ones. We both got a laugh from the sticker on the front of the one we just installed. It claimed that yearly operating costs would be around $59.00. BULL SHIT!!!!!! It costs more than that to run per month around here!

And bear in mind that's with us keeping the house around 80 degrees.

  • When my mother-in-law was talking about putting in central air the only place the vent system could really be installed was the space between the drop ceiling and the roof. If it had a floor you could consider it an attic. it gets superheated up there in the summer. The system would have to deal both with keeping the house cool and keeping the vent system cool. I think such a system would only be cheaper around here if you paid someone to dig out an area under the house for the venting system.

The Mitsubishi mini-split is possibly better for her then. The heat exchanger lives outside, connected permanently by tubes that are let in through a hole in the building wall (carefully sealed around, of course) and the unit that pushes the air lives up near the ceiling and is both quiet and very efficient. It's ductless.

  • We looked into those mitsubishi units.  Would be perfect for our small house.  For now though we're just using the 2 small window units in the bedrooms and a portable for the living room.  Which also acts as a dehumidifier.  The dogs have learned where just the right spot on the carpet is for maximum cooling!
  • Swamp Coolers are only worth it if you live in the southwest and you don't mind keeping the house windows all wide open to allow it to properly cool. Even then on really hot days it's not going to make much of a difference. I lived in Arizona for almost a year and brought my swamp cooler back to the deep fried south with me, and immediately bought a window unit as soon as I realized what a joke swamp coolers are in humid environments.
  • Yup. They only work in arid regions. Even here they are limited in effectiveness. WHen the daily high temps get over 100F and are that way for days on end swamp coolers really only reduce the temps inside by about 10 degrees. They're just a lot cheaper to run than true ACs are.

More expensive startup cost, but less electricity usage than the window units (which we used for over 12 years). I didn't know about them until we stayed in a B&B that had them--and fell in love with 'em.

mmm... what do you consider a "small" house size to be?
    Suspiro ergo sum.

  • @Ladyfur: How're things going?
  • hi, terre! i was just about to say hello when i saw you post :)

we got our domain name squared away, finally!
i'm up to having proofread 1032 chapters out of
    my over 1800 :) it's taking foreverrrr.

why does this forum always save a draft when i don't tell
it to? i'm as baffled by that as by the lovely glitches over
    on the, 'soon', forum ;)

    ~^..^~ ladyfur
  • Great news on the domain name. Too bad it took so long.
1800 chapters? Ok, that's going to take a while.

Apparently the draft saving is part of how Vanilla works. What I've started doing is just letting the draft sit there and then over-rite what's in it the next time I respond to the thread the forum made it for.

Terre - yes, that's all you need to do: wait until you write on that thread next. Just ignore it. You don't have to post it just because it's a draft.

  • Sure is quiet here this weekend. Is everybody ok?
  • Hey ho-- yeah, OK here, anyhow.

We had a massive storm across the mid-Atlantic states here on Friday night that has left about 1.5 million households in my immediate region without electricity, not to mention businesses and other utilities. We have electricity--considering that the temperatures are hovering around the upper 90F with 40 to 50% humidity--people have died from the storm and will likely die from the heat. So...things are not well around here.

Drove out yesterday afternoon on an errand. More than half the traffic lights were out on the main drag and most of the commercial district was closed--and for Raet's information, this is a long, six-lane road that does more business than Rodeo Drive in L.A.

You know, people who live in Rockville are so polite. All that heat and humidity, the traffic lights out at big intersections, most stuff that people need closed, many homes without power...and I only heard ONE car horn the entire trip. No unrest, no problems, everyone cooperating nicely. Amazing and wonderful.

  • Holy cow, that really doesn't sound good. Glad you at least are ok.
Scotland (and the UK) have been hit by some severe weather over the last year and a half. Worst were probably the winter storms (everything ground to a stand still because of snow) and then there were a few storms in November and again in January, I think leaving thousands of homes without electricity for a couple of weeks. However, nothing of that magnitude.
  • It's been hitting near 100 here.  I've been trying not to melt (even with the air blasting) when not at work ....it hasn't been working.  Ugh.  I hope things calm for you, doll- what a farkin' mess.
