I've looked... I haven't found much of anything that comes close either for free or sale. I wonder if we could nudge Jack or Stonemason into something like the Ruins of the Future Cities or something. Or maybe someone else will come up with a set. I like some of the 'grundge' bars, and the noodle shop and such, but that's more Bladerunner style than what you're putting down. And the Bladerunner style is all near-future and while decadent, not ruins, exactly. And I don't mean post-apocalyptic, either. I mean alien ruins. Maybe the Prometheus meme is making its way through my brain (not that I've seen more than trailers) but not exactly like that, either.

I have this vague idea of a rainy street scene. But all the street sets I have are all flat and dry. How can I make a wet, potentially shiny pavement out of a dry one? I'm not afraid to fiddle with shaders, but I could spend a century in the material room and never get anywhere.

Just add a glossy node to the specularity of the concrete. That'll do it most times. Specularity>click and drag to produce a wire, then release>new node>lighting>specular>glossy. Change the specularity color to white if it isn't already. You might need to boost the level of specularity to around 0.3 for each surface, but this depends on your lighting. Make sure you are using bump-maps, otherwise everything will just look... Ummm... Glossy. ;-)

Good from a distance, that. Jim did a tutorial on rainy scenes somewhere in here. You could also put the wet skin recipe on *anything* that needed drops up close instead of a distant gloss.

Meh. I was getting somewhere then I decided I needed puddles. Which means I need drops. Of course I can't find the tutorials (Nano? help? I think the wet skin shader would work, and you'd think I would have saved it somwhere safe; but eh, that would have been sane and logical...) I was looking for. I think I'm getting a cosmic message to do something else tonight and sleep on it.

We've had german friends and their wedding party over all week. They got married here on Wednesday but had something planned out for their 120 guests everyday, BBQ, boat trip, bus trip etc. Hate to think how much the week cost as they paid for everything except the flights and accommodation. Think they've drunk the island dry of beer as they consummed half of what they'd ordered in advance the first day!
Here's the lovely bride and her unusual self-made bouquet of beads and feathers. Took her 8 hours to make.

They sure know how to party! The wedding went on until 3:30am, we left around 1am as I had to work next morning. Unfortunately I didn't get to practise too much of my german as they all wanted to speak english. It was useful just listening though.
We also had some great band music as they are from 2 different bands around Lake Constance. Petra is the maestro of one of them and conducted in her wedding dress :)

That's what I was doing -- a simple plane and a water shader. I hadn't thought of the Terradome shaders or any of that kind, I'll have to go see what I have. It just got late and my mind got fuzzy. Thanks for the suggestion!

So... This is what I came up with while fiddling with things. It is the fifth freakin' render, but I'm actually sick of looking at it at this point. XD I saved it for the web to cut down on the image size, so if (Nan) anyone wants it let me know and I'll email the original on over. SHARPIES!

I'm never quite sure what to think of these "I made a masterpiece out of _____," using some curious household material or other instead of the usual media. Sometimes the images or items composed are really neat, sometimes they're just ordinary but for the things they're made of. I'm not getting into the "is it art" question, but sometimes I wonder if the things that make it fascinating is just the extremes of the crafting and not the depiction. Like the squirrel and feathered eagle made out of wood chips/shavings I showed a link to somewhere around here: the figures themselves were fine, but not outstanding; but the crafting was fairly amazing.

You could make much the same argument for digital art, Nan. It's not a traditional medium, but I'd argue it's no less artistic than traditional mediums. Art encompasses so much more than that. Just because someone chooses a different media doesn't make it anything less than interesting to me. So what if it isn't painted? It's still pretty incredible on it's own merit. I felt the same about those wood chip sculptures. Ingenuity sometimes deserves a look too.In this case, the person obviously has an eye for painting and being able to translate that into a cross between pointillism and sculpture surely makes him talented, if nothing else. Personally, I quite love the outcome, nails or not. I wouldn't categorize this as 'just okay', myself, but that's just my opinion.
