    Well, I do believe I shall punt and call it an evening, after getting a little bit of writing done (and some TV watching).  Huzzah! I managed to navigate the rather complex a/v setup my dear has in the living room and transfer up a Lost Girl episode from one of the Tivos downstairs.

    Yes, we have a bigger LAN with media and servers and shit, behind a router and firewall, than some small companies I've worked for. Fortunately, I'm not the Sys Admin! :D

    Thank you for giving me a perspective from a patient's point of view, guys, :) I've never had to be hospitalized so I really don't know the other side of the story. This helps a lot, ^_^

    That said, this will be my last post for about a week or so. Going off to visit the family in Honduras, and finally going to see a cousin I haven't seen in 20+ years. *excitement*

    If that one in the SF& Horror thread is such a effort, I'd say so. Shape wise it's very realistic. It's missing the small chunks of rock and pebbles in the foreground that a sandstone area like that actually has but that's minor.

    The rocks and pebbles could probably be take care of with the proper material and rock "ecosystem." Ecosystem's are Vue's version of a replicator; it takes into account its environment and can distribute things fractally, as well as being combined with materials and such. I'll have to try that! :)  Thank you.

    I think when Jim gets up I'll see if he can find good photos for you. The grasses are foot tall or so "bunch" types. The tallest bushes are around 5 to 6 feet unless they're in a stream bed or right on the banks of such.

    Yes, this is why I succumbed to Vue. It's really rather fun, once you get a grip on it--and that's not terribly hard. And it's one of those programs where you can use it at various levels, from carefree hobbyist to very serious production artist. I mean, if they can make the world of Pandora (Avatar) with Vue and I can piddle around with the same program and get happy results, well, that's impressive.

    There's several. Window Rock in Arizona is one. If you go back to the badlands link I put up, the left hand photo is an arch.

    I was lucky enough to get my hands on Vue 9 from 3DArtist (I think that's the mag) from the UK- It's a full, usable version. However, I do not think my computer LIKES it, not has the specs to run it properly. So far I've downloaded it. I'm not trying to install it until I get time to sit down and compare specs. *Grin* No need to kill the comp with something that it can't run like I did once with Zbrush. That was a whoops that costed me big time. *chuckle*

    Vue pretty much requires a hefty processor, lots of memory, and a serious graphics card. It's quite the resource diva. >.> Was one reason I bought my MainGear the way I did.

    LOL!  Sometimes I look around and marvel at the changes. Then I shake my fist and say, "So why did it take so long?"  (That was a rhetorical question.) Only last night: We keep the living room stereo on standby. So, I sat at the dining room table --mind you, it's all one big room--and brought up a favorite channel on Pandora on my phone, a channel I made up, and then swiped it up to the stereo for the big sound. Nifty! And when a call came in, the music paused until I was done (on the same phone) and then I un-paused the music. Like...wow. And the flat-panel TVs. Goddamn finally! TVs shouldn't obtrude into our lives any more than a framed picture does.

    I was ready for all that about 20 years ago. ;)  But them I'm an alien, anyhow.

    NAN! *TACKLED! squeeze!!* Heya, dollface!! :D Yeah, I thought so. I don't think I'll be using the Vue-ness until I can upgrade the entire system. It's dual-core is about ready to crap out on me as is with the pushing I've been doing on it since I started this in '07. As is, I have to run PP or DS while in diagnostic mode, and anything over 25 layers on PS requires that I do it while under Diagnostic as well. *Chuckle*

    I can't even run PS and Firefox at the same time anymore without glitches and stutters! *Squeezle!*

    Hey, hey, hey............I still have a VCR, PS 1 and the original XBox here. To go right along with the 15ish year old TV set that's seeing it's last days. Every two days or so I have to up-slap it to get the wee little line to explode into a full picture so I can at least SEE what's on it. :D!

    I would.........if I had a flat panel TV. Dont' get me wrong, I still have the PS2, too- but the expesnive tastes *I* have for a tower is going to have to wait. Look up the 3DBOXX 8550 Series at boxxtech.com, for example. When I get 9K for the system.........(HA!) I can think about upgrading everything else! :D:D

    What a day. Lovely unexpected surprises when pulling the old AC window units out of windows this morning at home, especially the one next to my desk! That there was a rotten window sill (between the storm & inner windows) where water had apparently been coming in for a bit. ANTS! Masses of ANTS, which were enjoying the whole thing. Another AC unit had been sheltering a brood of sparrows, which I protected from the Wrath of Kay--but she frightened one of the nearly-fleged babies and the little bugger leapt right off the sill and fluttered to earth. Mom and dad bird were livid. Second baby stayed put and hid. I didn't let them fling that one out. There was a nest with warm little eggs in it in another window --more sparrows--and I told the guys to not let me see what they did, so the three tiny eggs went bye-bye. :(  Well, it's not like we don't have a BILLION sparrows. So, like, we have windows again! @_@ Amazing.

    But the ant infestation required our pest people to come out and look to be sure they weren't termites. They weren't. But then we had to convey that we wanted two of those inner sills replaced and painted. And another bit of water damage fixed up. 

    Conveying the plans to the 2 guys who are working on the house (our team) was in a mixture of my bad Spanish and their rotten English, so that took a while.

    And then there was the matter of examining three of Kay's crazed handyman lists from three different dates to see if we'd lost anything in the translation and then writing email to the contractor about that.

    Somewhere in there, the shower on the main floor got measured for glass.

    THEN I had to go to work and write budget requests for FY 13.

    But I got to pet the baby sparrow!  Warm, soft little birdie. It just huddled into a ball and blinked at me and didn't cry when I stroked it with my finger. That was a big Happy for the day. Didn't seem particularly upset, just scared into being very still.
