I saw that, but for now that isn't going to do me much good without an upgrade to 2012 or P9- which I am not going to do. First and foremost is that I dig into what I have to see what I can learn. Save for a new comp- THEN work at getting upgrades. :D Otehrwise I'll keeel eeet and have nada. Then the voices in m'head will go on revolt, I'll end up going nuttier than usual...It'll be an unholy mess.

Well, despite what some may argue, having shaped breasts in the cuirass doesn't weaken it by directing arrows to the sternum.  The Romans made cuirasses with shaped muscles and stuff, officers in the legion often bought them.  Against an arrow, if the armor is thick enough, it doesn't make that much difference.  In fact, hitting the boobs and being deflected to the center would pretty much insure it won't penetrate the center - the way the physics of arrows work, once they're deflected, they don't penetrate for crap.  Arrows are most likely to penetrate where they hit perpendicular to the surface.  The more curves the surface has, the less chance an arrow will find a perfect perpendicular, and the greater the chance it will simply bounce.  Hence, many suits of Renaissance armor had vertical ribs molded into the armor top-to-bottom.

Sorry, didn't mean to annoy with my usual drunken pedantry. 

1) Vue has several less-pricey versions that come with fewer of their plugins (or sub-applications). Go to e-on's web site and you'll get the story. http://www.e-onsoftware.com/ 

2) I got Fabricator for Poser but haven't installed it. Poser has a materials room, but I think this is a nice script to help the materially-challenged quickly apply them in various combinations. Otherwise, there are various materials sets for poser that will give you fabrics choices and such.

But... But... If you can't indulge in drunken pedantry, then how can we? Besides, that's how we find out about a lot of random stuff that might one day make it into a story.

Thank goodness I didn't install that. It's been prompting me every time I open the program and because I was busy doing work stuff with Vue (yeah, I have wiggled the use of Vue into work! *grin*), I didn't do it. *whew* I would have been hosed had I done that, as it was all due yesterday and we have our dry run of the presentation today, then I have to be up at 5am tomorrow (on a statutory holiday here in Canada) to do the presentation to the people in Doha. *faints*. What a week.

Yeah, I wiped and reinstalled. Still thinks there's a pending update. >_< Gah!

Gettin' back to boobs in armor: 

To clarify what I was drunkenly getting at before:

This is what I was talking about with molded boobies in a cuirass:



Roman Legionaries had similar cuirasses for officers that had moulded muscles to make them look like Hercules.  The Greek Hoplites had them, too.  Both frequently included little details like navels and nipples.  Judging by the illustrations and statuary we have in museums, it was pretty common. 


So yeah, this works.


I guess my largest objection isn't to boobies in a molded steel cuirass, but when what the artist puts on the character is basically an armored bra.  Armor that exposes your décolletage is sexy, yes.  And tummy-baring armor is sexy, too.  But as far as being useful as armor?  Well, no.  At best, it's just metal clothing.



Now, this armor works, but it would take a very strong woman to fight in it.  Think about how much all that metal would weigh.


This works, but the woman would have to be even stronger.  Plate armor like this weighs eighty pounds and up.


And here is an absolutely glorious suit of female fantasy plate that would work extremely well.  However, there's so much metal there, the woman underneath would have to be built like a Steroid Queen to fight for more than a minute or two in it.



Of course, we do have real, functional medieval armor made for women.  Female SCA fighters wear it.  And they end up looking like this:



No boobie-bumps.

Why? 

Well, it's actually a lot easier to make armor without boobie-bumps.  Also, resting the chest armor on your boobs just like a man rests it on his pecs allows you to use your boobs to help soften blows taken to the chest (and yes, it smarts when you get wholloped in the chest, but a lot less than if all the force is just dropping on your sternum).

But, by golly, if you've got the skill to do it (or the money to buy it), real SCA armor with boobie-bumps is available.  Here's one set:



Now, people in the SCA don't get shot at with arrows much.  So the discussion about boobie-bumps and arrows is moot, there, and makes us wonder:  Why do they bother to make full armor like the above and include boobie-bumps?

Well, if you ask the women who wear them, you get one of two answers:

1) I wanna look good while fighting (or, alternately, I don't want to look like a man).

2) I got big boobs - flat cuirass makes it hard for me to breathe, and if I loosen it up enough to where I can breathe, it's too loose to protect much when I get hit.

So - there you have it.  A sober explanation of what I meant. ;-)

BTW, Poser actually does become more likely to crash the longer you go without saving. Slows things down to do that...but it's better than having to redo work like, six times. ***pain***  This is totally not apparent to the newcomer to Poser, so don't feel bad. Trips us all up.

Jim explained something about this a while back (like years ago) and I don't recall the technicalities...it's like its memory buffer clears after a save.

3D programs--meh, they're all a bit wonky.

In better news, totally ripping out ALL the Vue local data as well as roaming data finally let the poor buggered thing install and open again. Cripes. >_<

Well, if they have V4, they have Alice, basically, but I'm sure they'd like to do a more tuned version.

Noted, and thank you.  I have a 32, so I work with what I have.  I do save often, and hadn't even gotten to the rending aspect of that dynamic test. It crashed during the calculations or the smoothing.  Eh.  What can ya do but plug away and SAVE.  :)
