  • Grim, sweetie, can you tell me where you got that dragon fish? I think he would make a great avatar for a jacked in hacker in cyberspace, if re-textured.
  • Here ya go, hon.   http://www.daz3d.com/mystikoi  Comes with several textures and I think there's a freebie "crystal" texture o...somewheres. XD

  • "First Footing"?
  • That's awesome- I love the kilts!  Not to mention the render itself, well done.
    "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it. " Mark Twain.
  • In Scotland, New Year or Hogmanay is (traditionally) much more of a celebration than Christmas.
    First Footing is the first foot over the threshold after midnight. For luck it should be a dark haired man bringing gifts of coal, black bun (fruit cake encased in pastry, similar to a mince pie) or shortbread, and whisky.
    Seems it might be a dying tradition though as when I posted on devArt a, presumably, young scots person said they'd never heard of it! More info here for those interested http://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofScotland/The-History-of-Hogmanay/

    Thanks Grim. The kilts I made using Marvellous Designer and are based on belted plaids or great kilts. Not stitched like the modern kilt, just a long length of cloth.
  • Thanks. :)

    Although my ancestry includes several clans, both highland and lowland, my family was almost all over on this side of the pond by the 1770s. THe exception was one couple who came over from England in the mid 1800s.
  • History is all on hubbies side, but as mother was a fan of all things scots, we had hogmanay programs on the TV every new year growing up :)
  • That's a wonderful picture! Thank you! And I've heard of Hogmanay, but not what it was about.

  • here is auld lang sine in scotts dialect from a video on youtube, sung as rabbie burns likely would have sung it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=i4pN0zn16jk

    'Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And never brought to mind?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And auld lang syne?

    For auld lang syne, my jo,
    For auld lang syne,
    We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

    And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
    And surely I'll be mine
    And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

    We twa hae run about the braes,
    And pu'd the gowan fine;
    But we've wandered mony a weary fit
    Sin' auld lang syne.

    We twa hae paidled i' the burn,
    Frae morning sun till dine;
    But seas between us braid hae roared
    Sin' auld lang syne.
    And there's a hand, my trusty fiere,
    And gie's a hand o' thine!
    And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught
    For auld lang syne.

    For auld lang syne, my jo,
    For auld lang syne,
    We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

    Written
    by R Burns some parts collected . chorus may be repeated after each
    verse. deliberately written in the Scottish dialect of his day..
    Arms
    should only be crossed and hands joined on fourth verse (formal) but as
    song of friendship then no problem to do what you want as a song of
    memories of friendship and not a religion.
    Meaning of unusual words:
    Auld lang syne = Former days and friends
    jo = dear
    stoup = tankard
    gowans = daisies
    braid = broad
    Gude willie waught = friendly draught'

  • here is the only xmas card i could make this year. mspaint xp version, a stand alone proggy that runs on win7. i worked on it for months. i hate pointillism. this is not a traditional card. it was a request in october for a painting that morphed into a christmas card that ended up being the only card because i'm out of time. anyone is free to save and print it if they like.
