  • Christ.  I'm having so much issue with the MR and the gen maps matching the base torso texture so far I've considered saying screw it and leaving them as is.
    Number 1 is the default gen map, number 2 is the best I've gotten it to look so far.

    I cannot find M4's default UV maps on my computer, anywhere. I had them, once.  I don't know what happened to them, but damn it the stretching alone on the UV's are ticking me off, not to mention the damn color issues and the mismatch of .....everything..

  • Thanks, Raet.  I do as well, but I found out that wasn't the issue...or most of it.

    Seems when the shaft is erect, there is no stretching.  I put the gen model into Silo and made new UV maps set to 4000 x 4000 and went from there.  For the matching of tone between the hip/leg area, I started working on the SSS scatter settings on both models to see if I can even things out a little bit.

    The stretching, with the larger maps, is not such an obvious thing.  So that's good.  The skin tone between the two models still is off, but it's better than before.  The body morph is Trystan's first (really thing option) and the gens are conformed without adding morphs which helped the severe misshapen happenings around his hip and base.

    You use BB code. But another thread may be better, since even spoilered, I can see the thumbnails perfectly well. :P  ;)

    For future reference, you put square brackets [ ] around  spoiler and /spoiler. ( Pardon the obscurity. If I did it here, you wouldn't see it...) So it's

  • grim, your page 6 redheaded skinny model looks just like my high school boyfriend who was bi. he had very intense red hair, a mexican mother and a russian father and he was that skinny as well at 15, and even later, in his twenties. my grandmother said, at the time, that boy would make a beautiful woman if not for his big hands and feet. she couldn't say more than that because she did not see him in the back seat of the car the way i did. ;) anyway, you did a great job on your model. your female face is pretty but the mascara really does nothing for her, in my opinion. i hated mascara and always opted for the eyeliner pencil instead during the disco era. good luck with those models. :)

  • Question:

    With a full body or full character inj pz2 file, I save it using Morph Channels only in the Pose folder in the runtime Library why is it when I use it on M4 in a posed position he snaps back to the zero'd position he was in when I created the morph pz2 injection file?  I did not save it with body transformation checked.

    What do I need to do to have it NOT snap him back to the zero position if someone already has him posed when I save the pz2, or can I fix it in the editor in the file itself?

    This is most likely an error in the saved pose, the "body" translations are saved to it. You can either re-save the pose without setting it to save body translations, or you can manually edit the file to remove body translations.

    Jim Farris, Author, Science Fiction and Fantasy
  • I had tried to manually remove the translations and broke the file.  However, once I restarted Poser a few times I managed to get the Netherworks PoseWriter Panel script from the Partners panel in the Scripts menu to work.  I saved all of them with only Morph selected and updated the file version from 6 to 9 in an editor to keep consistency and it worked perfectly.  XD

    I don't know what to remove from the file manually- I tried all of the scale/translation segments and even if it worked in Poser 10, I got an error message stating it was an invalid file.  I broke that one.  Good thing I had back up files in the zip and I always save the finished morph model as a character cr2 in the Character folder in the runtime just in case.
    "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it. " Mark Twain.
  • Okay, that then begs the question:  How DO you edit out body translations?

    Alright, I'll make a pose that has them, then edit it out.

    First, we make a scene.  Hell, let's do an NVIATWAS.
    Spoiler:

    image

    It's V3RR, for those who are wondering.

    Anyway...

    So I save that pose out to the library, selecting to save body translations and rotations.

    For clarity, in case the obvious is necessary for someone else who might be new to this process:  The result is a new PZ2 file that contains her current state, saved in a folder under the "pose" section of the runtime.  Do not edit the CR2, edit the PZ2 pose you saved out.

    When I then open the pose file in a text editor, I will then see the following near the top of the file:

    actor BODY:1
    {
    channels
    {
    rotateY yrot
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 230
    }
    }
    rotateX xrot
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 0
    }
    }
    rotateZ zrot
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 0
    }
    }
    translateX xtran
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 0
    }
    trackingScaleMult 1
    }
    translateY ytran
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 0
    }
    trackingScaleMult 1.000000
    }
    translateZ ztran
    {
    keys
    {
    k 0 0
    }
    trackingScaleMult 1.000000
    }
    }
    }

    When I apply that pose, she will pop to the position she was at in worldspace when I saved the pose. Which was dead-center, and rotated 230 degrees along the Y axis.

    To remove the body translations and rotations, I change it to look like this:
    actor BODY:1
    {
    }

    Re-save to the library, and there we are. When I apply the pose now, she will not change her position in worldspace.

  • Jim, you are a god send.  Thank you!  Now, if you want to save her morph in the pose file, but not the pose at all, what would you get rid of?  I make a morph in the zero pose, save it (as a cr2 and a pz2 (as an inj file)) what would be best to get rid of to make the inj pz2 put the morph into the character anywhere in the scene but not move it back to the zero pose/translation?  I can do that now with Netherworks script, but in the case when my Poser freaks and doesn't like it (which it does often), I would like to learn how to do that in an editor.
    "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it. " Mark Twain.
  • AllMYTEE Jim, I have a question.

    I have Trystan's gens as an Injection, but to get them to fit better at the hip area I've added a custom morph using the Poser morph brush and made it a parameter dial rather than an injection.

    Now, this is the beginning of the text in the pz2 file:
    {
    version
    {
    number 9
    }
    actor hip:1
    {
    channels
    {
                    targetGeom PBMCC_01
    {
    name Trystan 2 Gen

    My question is, the dial only works at the hip-which I assume is because of "actor hip:1".  How can I get the morph to work down along the entire body of the genital prop so there isn't that dreaded line where the morph ends and the injection morph begins?

    I did try to change that to "body:1" and "body" but the dial doesn't show on any of the segments of the genital prop so I assume I did that incorrectly.  Then I did try "BODY:1" and the dial showed but did nothing to the genital prop.  If I can get the entire morph into a simple dial rather than an inj.pz2, I'd be happy.

    That's actually significantly more tedious, you have to snip all the rotations and translations while leaving the morph dials. Rotations are noted as xRot, yRot, zRot, and translations are noted as xTran, yTran, and zTran. Each is bookended by open and close braces, like so: { }

    Honestly?  I wouldn't bother, the resulting pose file would be the same size as the figure file.  I'd just set up the gens so they look right to you (morph brush and all), click edit>memorize>figure so it will always snap back to that shape on a "restore", then save it out as a new figure.
    Jim Farris, Author, Science Fiction and Fantasy
    Jim Farris, Author, Science Fiction and Fantasy
  • Really, that applies for pretty much any injection pose to any figure where you then followed up with the morph brush to tweak it.  Though you can create a pose file to apply the data again, it's actually a helluvalot simpler to hit edit>memorize>figure and just save the finished figure to the library.  That way, when you want to load the figure again, you don't have to load the figure then load the pose - it's all one step.  And hey, bonus:  Because you aren't calling python scripts to run injections, the overhead in RAM the character takes up is slightly smaller.  PP2014 may be 64-bit, but Python is still 32-bit, and it's memory management is less than optimal.

  • Oo.  I did not know that- thank you!  Now, would the memorize idea work if I wanted to distribute the file in a vendor pack?  That's the bottom line for these questions.

    That, I can't help you with.  My advice above was based on the (mis)understanding that this is for your own use, not for retail sale.  The "rules" for what is legit to sell and what isn't depend on the company in question.  Generally speaking, they're going to want an "injection" pose because goodness, someone might *GASP* steal Michael's pee-pee if you pass a CR2 around!  Or, you know, whatever.  The Poser Community can get weird about the subject of Intellectual Property.  Look like you might have nicked someone's model or texture in the Poser community?  THEEEEEEIF!  INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THEEEEEEIF!  Utter, endless, screaming vitriol from all sides, banned from DAZ and Rendo, and total strangers will e-mail you to say you're the most horrible creature imaginable and deserve to die in agony (and, on occasion, threats to find where you live, come by your house, and make it happen).

    But steal IP from a movie or TV show by making a character, outfit or prop that's an exact copy of what's on the show?

    Hell, man, you're not a thief then.  You're a goddamn HERO.  "Oh, WOW that is COOL make MORE!"  And the closer your product is to what you see on the TV show or movie, the more likely Rendo and DAZ are to accept it and market it for you.

    The Poser/Daz Studio community is seriously schizoid on this subject, man.  Seriously.

    But, anyway...

    See, I don't build injection poses because I don't use the Gen4 characters, and my workflow is entirely different.  I don't inject morphs into a character, I *remove* morphs that I'm not using with a script.  All my base characters have all the morphs there and ready to go, the more specialized characters are stripped down from that, with morphs they don't need removed.  Like pulling all the "fat" morphs from a character that's supposed to be athletic.  I also don't save out characters as pose-files, I build the full character, clothes and all, and save them out as a CR2.

    My best suggestion at this point is this product:

    http://www.daz3d.com/injection-pose-builder-1-5

    And this tutorial for it:

    http://www.sharecg.com/v/36268/browse/3/PDF-Tutorial/Injection-Pose-Builder-The-Easy-Way

    Beyond that, I can't really help, I just don't use injection poses.

  • Thanks Jim.  I've looked through that before, but haven't purchased it because I'm not sure how well it works for the price, nor do I know anyone who's used it.

    I'm more than a little irked at the idea that with how much this freakin' program costs, there is Another 3rd party program/script/set that has to be purchased to do the small thing I want to do.  I'm trying like hell to understand the tool I have, and still getting a grasp on the editing of files in text, but damn it there should be a way to do this without shelling more money out.  I've asked vendors over the years but except one or two that have given me tips- everyone keeps their yap shut.  Ooo.  I might take money away from they're stores.  Jesus.

    *SIGH*  It's a little shit thing!  *FLAIL*

    I still have that poser tool set on my wishlist.  lol

    Eh.  I've made dial parameters.  The testers haven't gotten back to me yet with the updated files, but if everything is up to snuff I'm submitting him as is.  Rendo may not *like* the dial fixes for his gens, but I don't give a shit.  If they want them out, I'll take them out and let people finagle the fixing themselves.

  • Well, I done went and lost m'damn mind.  I slapped Trystan into Studio 4.8 and made a full head/body inj for this shape (1) and for the other shape (2) and a full remove option.  (I haven't figured out how to make just a head or just a body inj/rem file just yet.)  Then I started on his material settings.

    Got him looking ...rather good so far and hit a block.  The damn eyes.

    They are...distinctly blackened.  I have searched for tips on material settings for the past three hours, came up with one really well done tutorial that got me this far- and yet, he's a blasted alien with those eyes.

    Note: the skin settings here are with no SSS, no Uber Skin settings, no pwSurface additions.  Just the textures and tweaks to the general material settings in Studio and a simple portrait light set up with one regular distant, one spec distant and a UE dome set to invisible to camera with a color matching the background and a background picture.

    I'm seeing if I can get him set up a decent way with no additives, then move onto SSS and crap.  Perhaps I can get a Studio set out for him to go along with his Poser settings (when/if they get accepted.  He's been submitted to Rendo as of 5 am yesterday.), but we'll see if I can get past this block and move to the next- his inner mouth and nails.image

    Those eyes do look very odd.
  • Hope he flies thru Rendo easily.
  • Yeah....I got back notes.
    His eyes are too white.
    No one reads the readme file (which this tester didn't); so the gen morph dial fixes on both body types did "nothing" because he didn't check the damn parameter tab.  Same with the ear.
    Didn't like the file set up.
    Didn't like the file names.
    wants a basic lip option (and why do I have a full face map for just the lips- just use the lip area.  Derp, because his lipstick goes outside of the lip seam.  Hence the full face map.)

    Couldn't figure out why I had a cornea base option (again- READMEFILE), so of course after he tried the radiation cornea contacts, none of the other eye options worked.  So "that has to be fixed".
    Wanted a remove file for ALL of the injection morphs- because again, no one reads the readme file that states the two I had work for ALL of them.
    ...........oh, and the gen maps don't match the body line at the hip (because he didn't use the gen dials to FIX IT)
    And the blue eye option wasn't blue it was green- or not blue enough. wtf?
