  • I think Pret-a-3d stated on a few forum threads at RDNA in regards to that issue.  http://forum.runtimedna.com/showthread.php?77761-Missing-figures-and-props-when-setting-up-scene  is where one if them is located.  I even chimed in on a few, since I had the same issue- I was told by another user that if you delete and re-load the prop, Reality can read it correctly.

Ouch. Any idea why that can happen?

Well, as it's an error in handling the scene hierarchy, likely the problem is a bug in the import module.

  • I got the oddest result the first time I used Reality: Just a candlestick I had made (but not textured especially, had a metal material in Poser). Came out as a white cutout, no details whatsoever. Very strange.

  • Back to the candlestick in Reality/Lux. Put it on something, fiddled with the backdrop material some.

  • *flopdown*

Been doing more modo tutorials--sort of a sick day treat. I think I'm finally getting comfortable modeling in the damn program. Sheesh, it's taken long enough.

I wonder if 801 (I have 601) fixes the funky stuff that can sometimes happen when symmetry is turned on...

  • I would love to learn Modo, but I just don't have the blasted time.  And wouldn't you know it, after I won Shade 14 Pro- they are discontinuing any updates/fixes/support after December.  There'll be no more Shade program for sale.

Eh.  I still do love working in Silo, though.  Will have to get back to that after (hopefully) finishing up three character sets to see if Rendo will pick up for sale.  XD

  • The character that the "Magic" pic is from? Yay! Go you!

Silo is great--it'll go 90% of the way there, if you can wrangle its UV mapping properly.

I got modo back when I had more disposable income, mainly because it had great UV as well as texture and sculpting capability. And it renders. And the newer versions connect up nicely with zbrush and substance.

But the learning curve has been steep and a bit off-putting.  However, thanks to Digital Tutors, I think I can get a handle on it. About damn time.  But then, Vue took a long time to get a grip on, too. Had to hammer away at those.

Now I want an update for Christmas. :(  Way expensive. *sigh*

Texture painting across seams is the holy grail. And let me tell you, Blacksmith will do it but it's a dog of a program. I *think* 3dcoat will, too...but I have zbrush, which will also do so, but with polypainting. Whic modo does as well. So I'm pounding at those hard.

I haven't forgotten being stymied by the hover platform I mostly finished for Epi. Dammit.

  • Yup-she is one. The Amazon barbarian chick is the other and Khold for M4 (In the Runner series) is the third. XD  Thank you!

I've tried my hand at so many programs, or their free trial versions, and Modo's was the worst to try and bust through in the short time you get when you try out the program.  I don't seem to have an issue with Silo's UV's (yet), since mostly what I've made are the initial clothing and three scene props.  I want to see if I can take something into Silo, work it out where I want it, slap it into Sculptris and retopo in Silo once I get it where I want it.......or figure out how to export the displacement I CAN make in Silo into a map. I thought I saw it down on a tutorial somewhere, but that was more than likely a few years ago.

I applaud you for working in Modo and Zbrush!  And your Vue work is exquisite, so that hammering paid off. :)

"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it. " Mark Twain.
  • I had the same idea about low-rez in Silo or modo, Zbrush for the high rez (it's Sculptris' big brother) and then back to the modeler for retopo--or using the high rez as a displacement map plus normal. I think this is a pretty common work flow.

Or sculpt in Zbrush/Sculptris and then retopo.

I hear ya about modo and their trials. It's impossible to bust through during trial unless you already used something similar, like Maya. *huff*  Right.

  • I had 3dsMax for a month, got some of the max car scenes I had for free converted over to obj files to use in Poser at least.  I've been wanting to use them for months..but I only got three converted before I ran out of time to do more.  Which sucks....and reminds me that now I have to uninstall it and the new render engine that had come out.  IF I can find it, since I now can't remember the blasted name of it.. lol
"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it. " Mark Twain.
  • Looking at Max in passing, in other tutorials (bring something into zbrush from Max, blah blah) I see that it's built along the lines of the old Microsoft paradigm of a settings dialog-y thing for every little action. It's just encrusted in numbers. modo hides some of that--it's good for being precise when you have to be--but manages to be rather oblique in the process, requiring one to really know a raft of keyboard shortcuts, and being very clicky. And you can accidentally revise your layout rather drastically when just fooling around with it!

Well, that's all as may be. It's a "choose yer poison" situation. As always, once you have some familiarity, it's much faster-moving.

  • And so it is...I think?

I'm off to work a Christmas party at my client's house this evening. Thank goodness the admin at his office set up the catering.

Since there's nobody else to prep the house--the client is worried about his decorations and getting a tree--I'll be going at lunchtime to start. Long day ahead.

    *tired*

Didn't help that when I went to bring the cats downstairs at 6:30 this morning, Kay was up and watching TV...having gotten home not too long before. Yeah, she works into the wee hours regularly. TV noise, cats, Kay awake and wanting to talk... *peels eyes open*

I quite agree. And my client was so enthusiastic he wanted to plan a series of events immediately. Wowser. Hey, he had *fun*--which is hard to unless you have a Mrs. Fredman to oversee the operation and serve. :) At which point, being a host is a lot better.

This is very satisfying work. All sorts of people leave smiling and happy. I have helped a bunch of folks have a very nice evening!

Well, yeah.  I can't go back due to having a new (temporary) job, and if I take the time (I usually am gone by now) during the training- I lose the entire job. Miss one day, come in late for any reason, and they drop you.

Can't afford that.  So...  Yup- I'm home this year. My parents, understandably, are upset- Christmas is not exactly a "fun time" anymore since my brother's passing last Dec. 12.  Nor are the other family members we've spoken about.

Me...I'm torn.  Happy and upset.  It's expected, I guess?

    Yes, it is. It's good that you have something deciding for you what you need to do. Sometimes, it helps. Christmas was a more bitter than sweet season for me for a long time... but we had the kids. {{hugs}}

  • Thanks, both of you.  *Hugs*  I'll be drug out for my b-day dinner tonight- weather I want to or not.  *Chuckle*   Everyone is determined not to let me slump into that hell-hole I was in years ago (not pretty).  I'm making the decision not to overly protest and let myself slide.  I don't want to go back into that head-space again and my parents do not need to bury another son.

It's a good day, today.  It is.
