  • Miao, that's awesome news. Where South of the border are you, if you don't mind me asking?
  • Lol, I'm not used to being thought of as a southerner! :D

I'm based in the capital of West Yorkshire. Leeds. Not as miserable as Donna Noble would have us believe.
  • Hehe, Donna Noble...cool, I don't think I have been to Leeds. Must go and visit, after all, you guys are twinned with my hometown of Dortmund.
When my dad was singing in our local choir (I must have been ten or so) we had people from Leeds staying with us for a week. I think that experience made me want to learn English. I hated not being able to communicate with them.
  • South of the border, eh? Depends on the border, doesn't it? I know neither of you is in Mexico, so my first thought was, "Miao is in Canada?!?!"... Then I remembered y'all are on the other side of the ocean!

    Confusing...

    LOL
Same here. What I remembered first was that Raet is in Glasgow.
  • Aww, Terre! Well remembered! Yes, I am in Glasgow but I am from Germany, hence the mention of my hometown.
  • My German teacher in HS was an Austrian who'd been in the Underground in WWII. She spoke of having to sneak around the German checkpoints heading West when the Soviets were coming and the Nazis were allowing civilians to flee west to the Allied forces.
  • Pokes forum. Everyone's busy it seems.
  • Hi Terre,
Yes, busy, busy. School show to organise, admin to catch up on, seniors' dance tonight...
  • Meanwhile it's staycation time for me. One week paid vacation and perhaps the store won't fall apart while I'm not there. I can guarantee there will be a pile of work awaiting me when I return. LOL
  • This looks like a tool some will find useful.

  • *cloud of sulphurous smoke*

Yes, the landlady is peeking in again. I have been kidnapped by Dutch people and am being held in a mysterious school in the Netherlands. I may even graduate. Like, @_@.

  • Nan, how long will you still be among the Dutch and where in the Low Countries are you.
I'll be in Dortmund in July and the Netherlands are just about an hour to two hour's drive away.
  • Hey there, Raet! I'm in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Limburg, NL. We're a hop and skip away from places like Antwerp and Koln and Bonn. I will be graduating (fingers crossed) on July 5. On the 6th, I go up to Amsterdam where I will be until leaving on the 10th.

i want to see that render.

no, really, i think it's neat that online people get a chance to meet.

i'm lost trying to catch up here... i hope that job situation got fixed
about the two trains and marathon walk to work. yikes.

i hope raet finds a nicer partner.

i hope the storms this summer don't eat any of you.

i also read south of the border as, '...down mexico way...', the song.

oh, and when i read roswell i was thinking maybe he got kidnapped ;)

i felt bad for donna noble. i kept hoping he'd come back and she'd

  • Damn, that is tight! Won't be in Dortmund until the evening of the ninth! Knickers! I don't think my folks would be to keen on me taking the car the next day to head to Amsterdam. That sucks! Would have loved to meet you, Nano. :-S :-S :-S
  • Well, poop. Sadly, the plane tickets are non-refundable. *sigh*  That and my 90-day tourist visa runs out at that point, too. Like, uh oh. I'd be booted out or put in a French jail or something nightmarish like that. I just know it.

  • No jail for you.  Nope.  Not enough bail money here!

Oh, and Nandear.  You need to message Jack Tomalin on FB about your prize from his store.  Just in case you missed the notice.  XD

  • Hi guys. I'm still alive. It's just that the birthday present that was meant to be super cool and make things so much better -- the new, faster, more modern computer -- has had the extreme opposite effect. I can't stand it so much that I've found myself avoiding it entirely.

It's impossible to explain properly. I can't effectively articulate my utter aversion.

Let it suffice to say that I only occasionally poke about online on AN iPAD (this is the depths of it, that an iPad would be preferable).

That being said, meeting Nano is always a great thing. I've had the pleasure of her occasional company for a while and always look forward to the next Nancursion. If you can, totally find a way to go see her. :). Seriously.

Religiousity and stuff -- generally makes for uncomfortable conversation in mixed company, but folk around here are mostly reasonable enough to refrain from rhapsodies of self-inflicted offense over every least bit of religious converse or imagery. One's Christianity or lack thereof is not an issue for scowling and castigation here. It is only disrespect -- INTENDED and unrepentant disrespect -- that would become an issue.

Religious iconography can be downright fascinating regardless of faith. The whole business of the crucifixion (or impalement, for JWish and other folk) is gruesome stuff if you don't ritually sanitize it. But yeah, there is more than a little truth in previously mentioned bits about the inverse proportions of faith and flammability among professed religious folk.
  • Oh, our old home forums...*sigh*

I've got nothing nice or good to say. The proprietors and their minions worked long and hard to effect my eventual refugee status. Long and hard. Those as know me well, know moving me from my accustomed places and habits is like moving the proverbial mountain.

Bitter much? Why yes I am.

  • Hello! Anybody home :)
  • Yeah, kinda.
  • I just took a look at the Weather Chanel. Got a funny result. Current temp is 109F. It lists's todays high as 106F. I think they need to update that projection a tad. LOL
  • LOL yeah. Just a bit.
  • *chuckle* They finally updated it to say that earlier today it was 109F and now it's 107F.
  • Here's a work funny: There's a Mexican brand of gelatin we carry where the English flavor description was clearly written by a Mexican who knows how to spell English sounds and knows a good amount of the
language. Problem is Mexican Spanish doesn't have a "ch" so they pronounce it as "sh". So guess how "cherry" is spelled. In the past AFI had the correct word on their shelf tags. Someone decided to "correct"
the spelling to match the item. I called them today to get the fix fixed.
  • OK, this is weird. Jerez does mean sherry but everywhere else see it in the store it is being used for cherry.
  • Good morning. Anybody around?
  • Define "any" and "body"?
    Suspiro ergo sum.
  • *snicker*
Lets see, a living member of this forum. Will that do?
  • It's already 97F with a projected high of 102F. I think the actual high could be above that projection. We shall see. And a 20% chance or rain? I'll believe that when I see it.
  • I will never again believe in rain (or no-rain) predictions down here, not after the 50% chance turned into the flood of the century in 1999.
    Suspiro ergo sum.
  • *snicker*
I don't blame you at all.
  • Well, it's reached 102F. At least I'm done with outside for now.
  • Hey ho!  Dropping in for a moment...having exams and presentations tomorrow. However, one of my fellow students and apartment-mate (he's a conductor on the British railway) just said that he has 8-hour oral exams for British Rules on Monday after he gets back! HOLY CRAP. Makes our Butler School exams sound like high school.

  • I wonder if Raet is out of the worst of the heat. I've seen posts by people in the British Isles griping about the heat and and roads getting so soft they are being damaged even though the temps are only in the high 80sF. Of course the normal temps those roads are designed for arn't quite that high.
  • It's been brutal here, as well in NY.  It's only getting worse this week, and our building has already lost power once this week.  *Sigh* I'm two steps from heat exhaustion as is, and this morning/evening commute is killing me and my need to artify.  I'm barely able to eat when I get home, much less do ANYthing else but pass out after the shower.

I hope Raet is doing ok.

Hee! It's nice to be home. But damn, I feel like I've been ill or something. No energy to speak of.

  • Good to hear you got back safely, Nano. Sorry about the radio silence.
I am good. April was tough, May was better and June as well as July I have certainly enjoyed for the most part, so yes, Scotland is safe!
