• Well what do you know, I went to the picture to link it here and someone indeed said it was faked. The picture wasn't even taken where it was supposed to have been, N. J. :I

And those photos are insane, Grim. I had no idea the flooding was that bad.

Hey, Dar, sorry I didn't realise the storm affected you this much. Hope things are getting better for you.

Does anybody know where AP is at?

Last email I got from her was just before the storm. She'd had to sleep two nights at the hospital where she works and was hoping not to have a third one.
• Damn!  GLad you're safe.
I'm used to stronger winds than most of you guys but even up here on the High Plains we get THAT kind of winds from tornados. In the 25 years I've been here there's only been two times when the sustained winds were 50 mph or higher.

I was wondering about that. With the exception of a species of shark that lives in the Amazon River I don't know of any that can handle fresh water.
• OMG You guys stay safe and take care!

Those photos remind me of the great storm of '87 in the UK, but I'm sure Sandy is much worse.

• I hope the hospital AP works at isn't on Long Island. From what I've just seen most of the island is without power.

Hello and good to see you. I was wondering how you were doing.
Yay on the first count and {{hugs}} on the second.

:O Oh, why thank you!

*chuckle*
Xaa and Nan can both tell you that I'm too soft hearted for my own good. Wondering how someone whom I've barely met is doing is not unusual for me. :)
• Hi, all. I'm still alive, :) Like Terre said, I did have to spend two nights at work during the worst of the storm, thankfully didn't get a third since someone offered to drive me home. My hospital is near the Harlem area of Manhattan, so we kept power the whole time, thank God. We received a lot of the patients evacuated from NYU Medical Center and Bellevue. Lots of the children and babies too. Otherwise, didn't have any power at home from monday till about thursday evening, so we spent a few chilly days and nights. Everything is back working for us now, so thank God for that. Keep NYC in your prayers guys. They say we're resilient, but emotions are running high, especially with the gas shortage and lack of power. Keep the rest of the east coast in prayers as well, especially NJ.

Sorry I haven't posted in a long while, my interests have sort of... declined?... in 3D. Trying to get interested in it again. And well, the new job has my mind preoccupied with basically re-learning nursing, heh. It's a completely different animal from where I used to be. Much, MUCH better.

That's about it... glad everyone in the east coast is ok, glad everyone else is ok too. I'll try to stick around a bit more, :)
• The entire East Coast is in my families thoughts and prayers and it's great to know that you're okay.

And as far as falling out of 3D, I get it. Life gets busy and things get mixed up so all you need to worry about is YOURSELF, your friends and your kin. <3

• Thanks dear, :) It's good to see you around as well! ^_^
• Being interested in 3D isn't a requirement. :)

Glad you could finally talk to us. {{hugs}}

Holy cow! They put some images on the news here the day after Sandy hit, but have stopped doing so now. Is that an electricity pylon flat on he ground in the last one?

One of several.  There are electric posts along the highways that have splintered like rotten twigs as well.   Insane.  A friend of mine's neighbor had been cleaning up the rubbish in his back yard in Staten Island and had to stop for the local police crew to come and remove the four bodies they had found under it.  All children.  It's well beyond upsetting at this point.

Good to know you're ok, AP. *Hug* And no, it isn't a requirement.  Just your presence here. ;)

And hello Christmas.

• Yup. Hello Christmas. :)
• HAPPY SACRIFICIAL TURKEY DAY............

• *snicker* Turkey was good.
• My apologies for having been MIA. It's been...a bit tough for me this fall. Lost my job on 9/11 (how appropriate, somehow). Job-hunted and then realized I wanted to make a MAJOR career change...that's in the works, but won't really get started until summer, for reasons I'll go into if anybody wants the story.

Then, just before the weekend of Veteran's day, I got the call I'd been dreading for years, and went to Austin to join my step-mom at my father's bedside. Well, he passed the day before Thanksgiving. I came home a day before, because people here needed me and I really didn't need to view the corpse, having spent the week-plus in final goodbyes. Step-mom's daughter is helping her at the moment, so she's not alone at all.

So here I am, finally orphaned (as my gf says), and while fairly OK, the depression wave is coming back. Doing art... uh. It's going to be quite a struggle to get back to it.

Let's see...lost a job I loved, decided to make a huge career change, and lost my father. Hm, I hope that's it for a while (besides trying to make ends meet).

Glad that you all are OK. Please, nobody die for a while, OK?

• So sorry to hear all that, Nano. Thinking off you.
• My goodness! Life has a wicked way of piling things on us at once. ><"""

It's good to see you are holding up well enough, Nan <3. Take all the time you need to feel better, clear your mind, and get back on track. n_n

• Sorry to hear about your troubles Nano. That's a lot of knocks to take at once. I hope and wish you have all the support and love you need to find your way back onto your feet. /hugs/
• Wow, Nan, so sorry that's happened! It's always rough when the universe just seems to aim its anus at you! But I'm sure your dad is still rooting for you, and whatever you do, make sure you find another job that you'll love! He wouldn't want to see you miserable! I lost my voice teacher a year back, she was the first person I ever came out to, and was training under her from the time I was 13, and she had the best saying, "Keep oil on your feathers and razors on your elbows." We're all here for you if you need an ear.
• Thank you for your kindness, my dears. As I usually say, when you hit the whitewater, paddle faster. Unfortunately, I seem to be moving in slow motion, as one does at these times. Bit by bit, my brain is getting some traction on the situation.

Now, I'm going to see if I can work on that piece I rendered before leaving for Texas...

• Well on a bright note, Philosopher's Egg has a lot of great things on sale, people should check them out. Hey Nan, how about a thread dedicated to special buys and sales people on here might be interested in?
• I don't think Nan will mind if you start one, CF. In the past she's told people to go ahead if they have an idea for a thread. :)
• A note for those who use FF with no-script: At Daz you now have to allow cloudflare to run scripts or you will not see any images.
• Terre, call me sordid, but the abbreviation FF made me think of very different things to an Internet browser!

On an unconnected note, I'll be uploading my calendar on to dA later to today , could you guys please spread the word? Remember, I'm trying to raise funds for an Aids Charity. Will update this post later with a direct link and a price info.

Hope you can do with hunky stocking fillers or know somebody who does.

• Sending thoughts and prayers your way, Nan. *hugs* Hope things brighten up just a bit soon, :)

• Wow very nice Raet, this is a very noble cause hun!
• I agree.
• Those using Paypal may have problems. It seems that Paypal has instituted a policy of 'If an item in an is returned we cancel the entire order.".

That's a big change to make - Paypal could have warned people you'd think. Thanks for the info.
DAZ could have warned people as well, if someone in Sales knew about this policy change. How many people need refunds here all the time, for all sorts of reasons? Not just "I changed my mind, I don't want it after all", but what about "the store charged full price, I want a refund to the sale price". Is that — which is happening all the time in the new store — going to trip Paypal's new policy as well?

If that's so, then DAZ needs to get the word out to EVERYONE, and not next week, not when they get up in the morning, IMMEDIATELY.
I know that Paypal sent out notices about changes, not that long ago...but I like most others probably didn't really pay that close attention to them!

This kind of thing is going to catch a lot more than Daz.

What I want to know, is if I pay for some autoparts, with Paypal...and it includes a core charge, what's going to happen when I return the 'core'?

That kind of thing is going to catch a lot of merchants with their pants down.  I think that DAZ is just as much a victim here as anyone...because Paypal's new policies are not exactly 'working in practice' it seems....
• You must mean that PayPal cancels the payment transaction. I can't see how PayPal can reach into other stores and tweak their ordering systems. I wonder why they decided to do it that way?

• Ok, so I find this ironic that after all of the money Google has poured into petitioning the government to stop the evil Biden's war on the freedom of interwebz they go and do this. I spent the past two days trying to figure out what the heck I was doing wrong as to why my safesearch wasn't turning off. Now I know... F%$k you Google, f&%k you with something long, mean and hateful!

• Argh. That just means that other search engines will get more use now.
• I usually don't care. But really? What's the big deal? SRSLY????

I have kids and a grandmother at home, so I'm actually VERY careful about what appears and STAYS on my screen. BUT it's MY choice and MY settings. Damn, do I really have to go look for a different search engine?

• You know Nan, I keep seeing all this art from Vue and it looks amazing. So is it an easy to use program, or more like Silo or Poser, and is the content created inside the program or do you need to buy content for it as well?

Btw, that's a beautiful image!
• I decided to get Vue when I found that one can bring Poser content INTO Vue--including people, animals, whatever. (Or from Studio.) Keeping things poseable is a lot of overhead, so when I do, I usually get the figures right and then export from Poser and Import. But the good news is that your sets won't go to waste!

And yes, you can buy content for Vue. Plants, textures, all that--good to have.

Thing is, it's not *one* program, unless you buy the high-end version, such as Complete or Infinite--and that's well worthwhile. A ton of good content comes with the professional versions. Sadly, people seem to have troubles with the less powerful versions and end up buying it all a la carte--more expensive.

I got Infinite because it will generate Alpha masks--that was the deal-maker for me. It means you can render loaded scenes in layers!

Like Poser, you can skim the surface or you can dig in. It's a very powerful program and is based on a a whole boatload of fractals that are used to generate everything from rock textures to plant placement, if you like. The atmospheres, ecosystems, and materials are well worth it. It's a LOT to learn, but you don't have to know the math to use it. The challenge I find is remembering all the stuff I've learned! And I have put a lot of time into viewing tutorials. Go to GeekatPlay.com and look at the free tutorials so you can get a feel for it.

I love it, because I'm a major texture and material 'ho. :D

Today's picture has more green. :)
