Thought it would be useful to have a thread for unfinished renders to get input on. :) Here's one I'm working on. The render is raw--not the usual boatload of postwork I do.

The title of the render is "Princeps," which, of course, is Latin for prince. I want the render to have a sort of detachment from time and space--it could be some ancient kingdom or it could be a modern fashion shoot. The sheer clothing is intentionally reminiscent of that worn by wealthy Egyptians, but the cut of the cloth is certainly not Egyptian--and the wearer is distinctly Northern European with his dark hair, fair skin, and green eyes. (The final version will be larger, btw, and rendered at higher settings).

Some of my thoughts that I'd particularly like input on:

*What do you think of my lighting? I kind of like it and kind of want more from it.

*I was thinking of doing the trim of the chiton in silver lamé instead of lace; what do you think?

*What do you think of the underskirt? Unnecessary?

*I currently have a marble stone in the ring, but I'm thinking of changing it to match the stone in the pins and torc. Agreed?

And any other comments are welcome as well. :)

Also feel free to post your own WIPs here for input. ;) I wasn't sure if maybe this should go in Arts and Engineering, so feel free to move it.

According to some TV stations, there's not much difference between horror and science fiction! I could debate that.

Anyhow, I have a friend who would like to visit. Alas, poor Torgil...

[Julian is a Witch and an agent for Bureau for Paranormal Affairs, and one of Alex's 'soldiers'. Cyrus is the wizard and security chief for Carolanus, one of the vampire masters in Palmers Rest, North Carolina, where Alex lives.]

Julian: "My, this is a rare photo indeed. So, this is that vampire master that was infected--"

Cyrus: "Infested."

Julian: "Infested, then--with that Abyssal parasite--the vampire Master that was gunning for Alex when he first took up Sorrows. So, all vampires are not technophobes." *smiles at Cyrus*

Cyrus: "Certainly not! I'm also good with high-tech security systems."

Julian: "This we knew. What was this unfortunate's name?"

Cyrus: "Torgil. He was the fourth Master in Palmer's Rest for over a hundred years. Really, a nice chap until Fechín got hold of him. We've never been sure what worm turned, but he pointed in Garrett's direction for the reason for his allowing himself to be taken over by that horrible creature. Poor chap. Imagine going through unlife with an interdimensional gate in your middle and an Abyssal riding in your mind as well as your belly."

Julian: "Yes indeed. And Alex and destroyed Garrett after that unfortunate incident with USAMRID, so I never got to interview him."

Cyrus: "That was the time when where Garrett shopped Alex out to their secret projects group."

Julian: "To be fair, Master of Sorrows--Alex--was on our radar long before then. We were just observing at that point."

Cyrus: "Well, would you have come forward if Garett hadn't?"

Julian: "Maybe, but not so quickly. And Garrett wouldn't have been trying to get rid of Alex if he hadn't been a greedy, power-mad son-of-a-bitch vampire master, and Torgil hadn't started that ball rolling. Present company excepted, I truly loathe vampire politics."

Cyrus: "I'm not at all typical, I know. I loathe games, too. Thank goodness my boss plays them well."

Julian: "Cyrus, Carolanus is a farking Roman aristocrat. They lived for this shit. We're mere modern men."

Cyrus: "Too true. Anyhow, I'm surprised that this photo came out so well. Thought your researchers would like it for their albums. Poor Torgil. He looks so sick in this. You know what he said when Alex finally took him down, don't you?"

Julian: "Dolores and Alex told me. He said, 'Thank you' before he died the final death."

Cyrus: "Poor Torgil. I miss him--the him before that Thing started riding him."

Production notes: my M4 character with RawArt's vampire skin, using uberskin shaders by Jim Farris; StudioArtVartanian's free 19th Century dynamic coat for M4; Coflek-gnorg's Dead End set; Poisen's posable tentacles (the best!); hair and f/x added in Photoshop in post. Render in Poser Pro2012.

It's never too late for Halloween! This is a portrait of one of my villains, who turned out to be a rather interesting fellow after all.

Hey all. Considering the recent conversations that have been occurring in the Artistic Nudes thread, I'm creating a specific spot for anything that falls outside of that specific category. If you feel it might be too erotic (focused more on sexuality than simply the nude body) then please put it here.

This way, we can hopefully avoid more arguments over what is appropriate to put in that thread and just keep things moving along.

I would still encourage you to put your art nudes in that thread and learn more about what is considered an art nude, however, if you are unsure where your image may fall, it's probably safer to post it here.

I would ask that you please keep images tasteful in this thread. No explicit images of intercourse. I am afraid those will get zapped, as Nan's server will not allow such things. Let's keep this in the realm of reason, folks. I don't mind frontal nudity (male or female), but no big close-ups of genitalia and no outright pornographic imagery. Let's be tasteful about it.

That said, have at it. I'll get us started:

Comic Style Challenge!

For our first challenge, let's go here, to Sean Ellery's black and white art gallery to find an image that you would like to replicate in a render! (Sean inked these drawings, and they're offered for playing with, so we have permission to use them.) The challenge is not for a prize, except the satisfaction of having completed a nice piece of art. The point is not so much to copy this comic style studiously, as to study the composition and style, which is very dynamic, and think about what makes an arresting composition. And make cool pictures!

Here's how:

Make a new post in this thread, below, and link or show the image you want to work from, and then declare what you want to do.

As you work on your piece--your choice of render program(s), of course--you can show WIPs if you like. Not mandatory, of course.

And make a new post when you're done, with a link to your original post. That's it!

You have three weeks from today to complete this! Your completed art piece should be an image, in any style you want, but replicating composition and pose of the original work. Post-work is welcome, of course! Perhaps we'll come up with something fun to do with the pictures as a result. I may have to create a gallery. :)

For instance, I choose to work on this Aphrodite X image and I'll do a color render with postwork to match

On your mark, get set, GO!
